Medical Electronics Engineering that advances knowledge in Engineering and Medicine is one of the most extensively growing fields of this era where people prefer the best and precise health service. Medical Science examines treats and cures almost all the disease meeting the need of accuracy by the people by using sophisticated and precise equipments. A medical electronics engineer can be called as the doctor of the equipments without which a doctor, a surgeon or a multi specialty hospital is helpless. He/She is the person, who knows the mechanism, operation and maintenance of these equipments.

Medical Electronics engineers are the one who design devices and measures that solve medical and health-related problems by combining their knowledge of biology and medicine with engineering principles and practices. Many do research, along with life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists, to develop and evaluate systems and products such as artificial organs, prostheses (artificial devices that replace missing body parts), instrumentation, medical information systems, health management and care delivery systems.

Medical Electronics engineers also design devices used in various medical procedures, imaging systems such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and devices for automating insulin injections or controlling body functions. Some specialties within medical electronics engineering include biomaterials, biomechanics, medical imaging, rehabilitation engineering, and orthopedic engineering. Medical Electronics Engineering Technology appeals to students desiring to be technical, and, at the same time, devote their careers to saving lives by helping doctors, nurses and hospital patients. Graduates become medical electronics engineers and maintain, repair, and calibrate the electronic medical instruments used in healthcare. To advance in these careers, it is also important to develop skills in communicating problems, ideas and solutions to other employees.

This program will develop troubleshooting skills in analog circuits, digital circuits, and processors. In addition, they must understand physiology, medical terminology and the operation of medical instruments such as EKG instruments, defibrillators, and incubators.

In the workforce, graduates are typically employed by hospitals or a subcontractor for a hospital. Some graduates are employed by manufacturers of medical instruments or medical devices, or as field support technicians, after earning experience in the field.

Although this program’s primary objective is workforce development, some graduates choose to continue their education and are accepted into Electronic Technology bachelor degree programs, pursue a degree in business, or continue their education in clinical programs.

However, students intending to continue full-time education toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology are encouraged to consider the Electronic Engineering Technology Program.

Career Prospects

Biomedical engineering is one of the recognized professional career options made by students in India. Biomedical engineers and technologists can seek employment in various industries such as hospitals, medical institutions, manufacturing units, medical equipment, government agencies and pharmaceuticals. Biomedical engineers develop modified devices and provide advice for handling and maintaining medical equipments. Individuals also can seek employment in medical equipment companies as technical advisers.

There are ample opportunities for biomedical engineers in the field of research and development at research institutes, government agencies in India, universities and other abroad countries. Biomedical engineers are employed in various companies such as Larsen & Toubro, BPL, Wipro Medical and Siemens into their R&D section or into sales and marketing, depending on their skills and preferences. Professionals in this career can also opt for teaching jobs in universities and colleges. There are lots of job opportunities available in India as well as in foreign countries.
